Description: | Extremely rare 1939 Washburn Superb Model Archtop. This was built at a period when Gibson was producing instruments under many brand names including Washburn, Recording King, Regal, Cromwell and many others. This was the top-of-the line Washburn archtop in 1939. Apparently, this was only produced in 1939 and shipping records state there were only 15 shipped. This is 100% original with no cracks, repairs or separations. Spruce top, extreme flame maple back and sides, triple parallelogram mother-of-pearl and abalone fingerboard inlays, chrome tailpiece and tuners and the binding is intact. This was also during war-time and nickel was needed in the war effort. 16 3/8" lower bout and 3 5/8" deep. Original Tonk Bros. Music, Chicago, label. They were a major Gibson customer at the time. Original soft shell case included. |
